I’m sorry I’ve been neglecting posting reviews. I could give some legit excuses, like my boyfriend is moving in on Wednesday, I’m helping my daughter and her boyfriend move into a new apartment on Sunday, I’m doing major home renovations, the political climate, the pandemic but…..
What really happened is I read A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR.) This series has been so thoroughly roasted by some of my favorite BookTubers I thought it would be a fun, so bad it’s good read. The first one left me a tad lukewarm, as Beauty and the Beast retellings aren’t exactly my favorite trope. Girl meets beast, develops Stockholm Syndrome, falls in love with beast, beast becomes handsome prince. Disturbing and boring and overdone.
Then I read the second book, and I was hooked. I read all the available books and preordered the next one, which last I checked doesn’t even have a cover or release date yet.
It turns out that I found the series to be so good that it is good.
Then I started Throne of Glass. The best word I can use to describe my feelings about this series is enchanted. I consumed the books like a starving redneck at The Golden Corral.
Then I discovered she has the first book out in an adult urban series. Wha…….?
I haven’t read it yet, but it is at the top of my TBR.
I only recently realized that I like YA fantasy, and man, is there a lot of catching up to do.
Speaking of which, YA can be pretty steamy. These books are aimed at 14+ year olds. When I was 14 my friends and I had to sneak around to read Harold Robbins and Jackie Collins for those type of sex scenes. Man, teenagers have it a lot easier these days.
Imma end this now because I’ve never read a Cassandra Clare book before, and Clockwork Angel and a Coke Zero are waiting for me.
Happy reading y’all,
PS After rereading the title of this post, I realized that SJM fans are really missing out if they don’t call themselves Maasholes. Is that a thing? If not, it should be.
